Opinion on ZooTOPIA (AKA furry disney movie)

Disney is appealing to furries.

I think there's gonna be a hell of a lot of fandom-specific furry porn circulating the internet after it comes out. Hell, even before it comes out.

Vivz is gonna be rather upset at this. As for me, I don't really care much. I've seen too many 'small animal' movies that tuned out to be total garbage, this might not be too different.

Yeah I honestly think vivs shouldn't get upset. I know that it will look to everyone who doesn't know her comic that she's stealing from disney, but if you look at the general characters and everything, there are very clear differences. The disney movie might even improve her publicity. Although, it will increase negative publicity as well... But those people are gonna be dicks anyways. So don't let them bother you.

Id say she should sue, but i dont think it would amount to much. To many lawyers and too much Disney money.

As she said herself, the real problem is that it's DISNEY. They're a titan corporation. They have everything and she is just a small indie worker. She has no power to prove them wrong if they claim the animals living in a "no-humans-allowed" world is entirely their idea.

I was thinking the same thing about her suing, but you know Disney, they have all the lawyers, and money. And it would also be pointless, I don't think a judge would say "Disney is in the wrong, they stole the idea." just because they have a fair bit of similarities, and a similar name. And also the fact that someone pointed out on the tumblr that they did the same thing with Chicken Little. And even if she did win the case if she ever sued them. The Disney fanboys and girls would go into 'DISNEY WASN'T IN THE WRONG, HOW DARE YOU SAY THAT ABOUT THEM.".

The concept is common enough that I really doubt it's gonna be a problem. Disney can't just pretend their the only sapients on the planet with an original thought in their heads. While it's true that you can't really make a DisneyxFinal Fantasy crossover or a world where cars live like people without drawing some eyeballs, Zootopia is not similar to Zoophobia at all once you get beyond the very basic outline of the world.

ZP has demons, likely 100+ unique characters, and will go on long, long after the movie's hype dies down and people forgot about it. When that happens, ZP will definitely have introduced new concepts, actually moved with the plot, and be very different from what it is now and any surface comparisons between it and ZT.

Well, lets just hope it all blows over. For now... Lets just continue with the Gif wars.

The movie looks cute. I can see why Viv would be upset about it, though... It'd be devastating if a big corporation released something similar to your life's work and people thought that you had just been copying it. She has no real basis for a lawsuit, but damn is that a real bummer for her.

What? Disney releasing something that appeals to furries?  There's a shocker!

I haven't really been following Zootopia, but it looks like the only things it has in common with Zoophobia are "talking animal people world" and a few letters in the title.  I'm not sure what's so "new" about the former concept, since Disney (and others) have done it plenty of times before.  I honestly think this wouldn't even be an issue on anyone's radar if not for the name, and while I sympathize with Viv, I think she's worrying needlessly.

As for the movie itself, I just watched the teaser, and I'm ambivalent about it.  Could be decent, could be horrible, but my critical weakness to foxes will probably push me to check it out anyway.

Ditto. I don't expect to see it in theaters but I'll definitely download it after it comes out on DVD.

It's understandable for her to be a bit worried since the names are pretty similar but the hype about this movie will die down eventually. They may sound almost alike but ZP was out there first and is vastly different in a many ways, no one should get the two confused. This is likely common with anyone who has made a product and had something only slightly different come along later from a larger more widely known company such as Disney.

Zoophobia came first! REVOLUTION! REVOLUTION!

Viv made a post about the movie, and it sounds like she's upset, and I'd be too. But, it sounds like she got over it too.

I'm just gonna say this: Zootopia looks good SO FAR, but we'll have to wait and see how Disney ruins every furry's dream at once.

Zootopia isn't furry- yes, it's anthropomorphic, but there's a difference. Yes, the animals have human characteristics, but they aren't full-on furries.

I didn't say it was, I said it would ruin furry's dreams. By that I mean that Zootopia will start off looking like the world that all furries want to live in (me to probably), but then Disney will find someway to either ruin it or offend everyone.
