When I read this, it just makes me think that Jack's job at the observatory is kind of "safe place" for him where he can just relax and de-stress. I like this kind of thing, since Jack's school life is anything but ideal.
Also, for some reason I think we're almost at the end of the arc. I'm imagining the last page is gonna be something like Jack looking up at space with an amazed/bemused look on his face. Something like: "Being here always makes me happy."

I got that impression too.  Not that there's any place where Jack can truly be safe, but he clearly flipped his switch from sad to cheerful when he stepped inside.  I could easily see him treasuring the occasional quiet moment alone there without having to put up with anyone else, especially just after getting bullied by Rusty.

Also, I wonder if Dan is human.  He doesn't have any of the known shapeshifter signals (odd hair, eyes, tongue, etc), and his speech bubbles are just basic black on white.

Have you noticed that most of the arcs end this way? Looking up at the stars and all? xD

I only just noticed this when you mentioned it, and I think you might be right. There's nothing there to tip off that he'd be anything other than human.
