| TL;DR: I'm pretty disappointed with this update. - Spoiler:
While cute, I feel that this is going way too fast. While anyone who has read any of Vivienne's notes or tumblr posts knows it's going to happen, she barely bothered at all with character introductions or interactions before jumping into instant romance. From the context it seems this is the first time they've met in universe canon, and Gustav didn't hesitate even a second before bluntly hitting on Addison, who might I remind you, is one of his students. He is there as a teacher's aide, so while the teacher isn't in the room, it's part of his job to assume the role, and he isn't acting at all in the professional teacher's attitude he had at the talent show tryouts. At the very least he should wait to flirt until they are no longer at school during class hours. Seriously, I actually work as a substitute teacher, who aren't held to the same standards as regular teachers, so Gustav should at the very least be required to carry himself in a professional and respectable manner that students should be able to look up to and learn from. Conduct that goes against this behavioral standard includes but is not limited to:
- Hitting on students when the teacher isn't around - Hitting on students whether or not there are other students in the room (Yes, everyone, Mackenzie is still there and is not only able, but expected to report things like this to the higher staff members. Am I the only one who actually wants her to report this? Because things like this can easily result in Gustav losing his job, or at the very least, the school can launch an investigation into his actions and behavior around students.) - Making sexually intoned comments at minors (I don't know how old Addison is, but since he is in highschool, I'm going to assume he's a minor. Even if he is not a minor though, teachers are still expected to be impersonal and unbiased with students, and treat all their students as just students, not friends, and certainly not romantic partners.) - Favoritism of any individual students, no matter how much better they seem to be (or look) than the others.
I don't know what kind of behavior is considered professional at that school, or in that city, but frankly, this seems too far and too sudden, even if the whole HITTING ON A STUDENT thing is legal and totally considered reasonable behavior.

| To be honest, I got a good chuckle out of Addison hiding in his scarf. | |

Hmmm, now that you mention it, I'm kinda hoping Mackenzie reports on Gustav to get back at him for hurting her feelings earlier in the comic. It would be a nice revenge plot.

| ...oh wow, never though of it like that. Thanks for that perspective. Gustav's behavior now seems inappropriate, even too fast for a creator-pushed romance or whatever.
Vivz confirmed that this new, retconned Addison is 17, Gustav is 19. It seems like Vivz is treating this like a regular shipping thing. Gustav's rather informal volunteering gig (something that is implied he did before) doesn't even seem like anything more than some contrived somewhat okay excuse for him to be there and participate in the talent show arc.
No but seriously, Vivz is unlikely to play this regrettable situation For Drama, and will likely just keep going with this: Gustav is a cold, condescending theatre judge stereotype, and he's now showing some warmth by complementing on his Designated Love Interest. Addison... I honestly don't even know what he's doing, hiding in that scarf like an ostrich. Not expected from what we knew of the old one so far. Maybe he's just reacting that way from the complements? Maybe he's just that promiscuous and is sensitive to perceived advances? Maybe it's just his first time talking to an anthro snake besides his mom, and we all know how he feels about snakes?
Actually re-reading that makes it sounds terrible, I have no idea about this sort of stuff, I mean we don't even have substitute teachers here, and these new Addison and Gunter are bleeding with old headcanons. Regardless, I really hope Vivz slows down on this "flirting"-I mean they just met-and spread this out a bit over time. I'm still in favor of that pairing, but if this romance arc takes place entirely in an art room, with Mackenzie in it, and with these two having just met, I'm just going to pretend this never happened.
And for Gustav being say, an unobjective talent judge (yeah I just made that up), that was shown with Mackenzie, with the retcon having him reject Mackenzie for literally no reason. Something tells me someone's a snake supremacist.

| Yeah, he did go from 0 to all over Addi at first sight... now that you guys brought it up this seems a bit strange considering what we've seen of Gustav earlier and right before these scenes. The reactions could be to the compliments and the immediate coming on to that were probably unexpected from someone he just met. That could catch anyone off guard... especially if they're busy painting and suddenly a stranger is hitting on them. I wonder if there's a hidden reason or something that suddenly attracted Gustav to Addi because it is kinda off putting. Love at first sight, maybe?
They both could be devices for the other to explore the two character's hidden feelings. We've only seen the surfaces of their personalities so far.
Also I found that scarf hiding adorable.

| Late to the party, but this doesn't sit well with me either.
Addison has a pretty legitimate excuse to be acting the way he is. If someone I'd never met before wandered up and started flirting with me out of the blue, I'd be flustered down into my metaphorical scarf too. So that's at least reasonable.
Gustav... yeah, I don't know what's up with what he's doing. Whatever it is, he deserves a speeding ticket at a minimum.
I think part of the problem might be that we're going into this expecting it to be the beginning of a relationship since everyone knows that's "supposed" to happen. If we didn't know anything about Addison and Gustav/Gunther... well, this would still feel rushed and odd, but without banging our heads on the desk quite as hard.
I'm willing to see how this turns out. Maybe Gustav is about to get called out on his behavior. Or maybe Viv will surprise us all by deep-sixing this thing. It's not going to happen, but I'd seriously go for that over... this. As a bonus, it would throw the entire massive years-long legacy of "canon" into doubt, making it exciting to see what comes next. Whatever the case, I hope it's resolved before the end of the year. That gives us... what, eleven pages?
